1)Those who argue in favor of the decision to drop the atom bombs believe that massive casualties on both sides would have occurred in Operation Downfall.The U.S. side anticipated losing many soldiers in the planned invasion of Japan, although the number of expected fatalities and wounded is subject to some debate. U.S. President Truman stated after the war that he had been advised that U.S. casualties could range from 250,000 to one million men.

In a study in April 1945, the figures of 7.45 casualties per 1,000 man-days and 1.78 fatalities per 1,000 man-days were developed. This implied that the two planned campaigns to conquer Japan would cost 1.6 million U.S. casualties, including 380,000 dead.
The allies were taking over island after isaland. Japan tried to destroy an american fleet to stop Amerincan supplies, but they failed and completly destroyed. Next the allies took iwo jima after bitter fighting. Now what was left waswas the main Japanease island. Taking the main isalnd would cause heavy losses to the Americans. So instead the U.S. dropped the atomic bombs after warning Japan to surrender. Two bombs were dropped on two different days killing thousands. Japan soon surrendered.
ReplyDeleteWas Trumans decision smart or not. His desicion saved many U.S. troop's lives. However it killed many inoscent Japanease people.Truman did warn Japan, and they should of listened. So his decision in some way was smart, but it did cause a lot of sestruction
1. They controled all the islands around japan. and Japan came upm witha plan to destroy the US but it failed. Truman made the distion to drop the bomb. Killed thousands.

1)•The USA was facing the prospect of invading Japan to subdue it. The last few battles, Iwo Jima and Okinawa particularly, were incomprehensibly bloody. Japan had no regard for its own citizens' lives and planned to turn their whole island into a fortress. It was estimated that casualties would be 1 million Americans and half a million British in the first invasion alone. Some cynics say we used it to scare Stalin as well, but the fact remains that they ignored an ultimatum on 27 July 1945 after enduring the worst conventional bombs could do. A powerful argument remains that the Bomb saved allied and Japanese lives

1) WE dropped 2 bombs on august 5, 1945. The names were little boy and fat man. They dropped on hiroshima nagasaki kiling thousands, Destroying many buildings. After the the war though we helped them rebuild.

ReplyDelete2) IT was a good decision, if he wouldn't have made that decision, the war wouldn't have ended when it did and we could be controled by Japan right now.
1) First off President Truman warned the Japanese. When they didn't listen he ordered the bomb to be dropped. On August 6, 1945 the U.S. dropped the bomb on Hiroshima, which was a Japanese city. Between some 70,000 and 80,000 people were killed out of the 350,000 population of the city. Then three days later we dropped another bomb on Nagasaki, another city of Japan. Out of the 270,000 that lived there more than 70,000 died immediately. Radiation from both explosions killed even more. After that the Japanese finally surrendered on September 2.
ReplyDelete2) I think it the statement is true. It was a wise one. Because of those bombings the Japanese surrendered. It was a death blow for them. If Truman hadn't have gave the go ahead to drop them and we hadn't, who knows how long this war could've lasted. And who knows who would've won? It could all have turned out differently.

2.) I think it was a good decision because if he didnt make this decision it would put the entire U.S. in danger obviously so he made the choice with his people in mind so i think he was very wise.
1)Truman dropped a bomb in the desert as an experiment and then he warned Japan that if they did not surrender then they could expect a "rain of ruin from the air" when the Japanese didn't reply Truman dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
ReplyDelete2) Sure it was wise. I mean the death toll was very large but if you think about how many people died throughout the actual war then I think that they should have threatned to drop A-bombs a lot sooner it probably would have saved lives.
