I read mine on the vietnam conflict and it just pretty much tells about the overall cold war. It says how we opposed the southern-based revolutionary movement.It talks about how we supported France and then later replaced France, when the communists won it was a set back and a blow to the United States' confidence.

DeleteThe spread of communists caused a lot of hostility to the U.S. Thats why we probably replaced France when communists won their country.

DeleteThe Vietnam conflict was in the mid-50s to 1975. There was a lot of tension between communists and U.S. Communists was spreading quickly and the U.S. was trying to stopit. Communism soon came to Vietnam and controlled the nothern half. So America and South Vietnam tried to defeat the communists. America was defeated and shocked, and communists still kept spreading.

DeleteThe Tet Offencive was one of the most famous attaks. Tet means summer and it was a suprize slaughter, it was supose to just be a decoy but it was way more destructive than that!

DeleteIt makes me wonder what went wrong and caused the decoy to become real. I also wonder what makes the attack so famous? Is it because it was a surprise? It sounds really interesting though!!

ReplyDelete2) I read about Tet Offensive, "Tet" means summer. North Vietnamese considered a surprise attack. They decided to seek revenge and destroy the South Vietnamese and their allies, the Americans. The head of the North Vietnamese military, General Vo Nguyen Giap, was ready to attack and can be considered one of the smartest and most creative military leaders who was trained to fight against French imperialism. It was a mass killing. The Vietnamese had a larger drive to win the war, because they were fighting for their freedom, along with fighting for their leader.
--I think that this is really interesting, I don't understand what made people want to do this or what happened to even intrigue the war.
I don't understand why these people would fight for their freedom. Their country was controlled by communists what freedom did they have? I dont get what all went down in the Vietnam war, but after the war communists kept spreading.

DeleteThe real Tet Offensive began on the Vietnamese Lunar New Year. This was supposed to be a time of peace and armistice, in compliance with celebrating the holiday. The American's thought since they had the lead nothing would stop them. However, this was all about to change when the North Vietnamese considered a surprise attack. They decided to seek revenge and destroy the South Vietnamese and their allies, the Americans. This military conflict can be considered a loss for the Americans because they did not succeed in stopping the spread of communism.

i read about The Launching of the USS Nautilus. But fear of nuclear warfare engulfed both the United States and the Soviet Union throughout the Cold War. In an effort to one up the opposing country, both sides developed new, ground breaking offensive and defensive technology on a continuous basis to intimidate the other side from taking action.

DeleteIt sounds like a big face off. The Soviet Union was like; " You better do what we say, or we'll nuke you!" And the U.S. was snapping back; " Uh-uh! You even think about launching those things and we'll nuke you ten-fold!" No one ever really did anything besides scare the other.
DeleteBasically it was a battle between communism and democratization. Acoording to the article communism won out in 1975. The U.S. battled the viet cong and North Korea. War lasted from about 1950 to 1975.

ReplyDeleteAt first America troops through they were ahead in the Vietnam War. Nothing could stop them. But then that all began to change. The North Vietnamese planned a counter attack to get revenge against the South Vietnamese and the Americans (we were allies). And as long as they had General Vo Nguyen Giap, who was the head of the North Vietnamese military and is considered one of the smartest and most creative military leaders to to fight against the French, odds were in their favor. Vo Nguyen Giap wanted to destroy the South Vietnamese and take them over iwth hard dictatorship (he was a real ray of sunshine huh?). And he also kewn that because of anit-war protests and peace rallies and overall hippie functions, the war was straining the American public. So on Jan. 21, 1968the NV and the Viet Cong coordinated the surprise attack on the SV and the Americans. They first bombed a few American bases which killed our confidence. But as devastating as this bombing was it was only a decoy. The real McCoy was the upcoming attack on the SV, and it was to be far more devastating. The Vietnamese fought with Guerilla war tactics, and had home field advantage on their side as well. They delivered some significant blows.
The actual Tet Offensive began on the Vietnamese Lunar New Year and was one of the most catastrophic attacks in the war. The NV hit more than 100 major South Vietnam cities and towns, and overtook the U.S. Embassy of Saigon. The U.S. didn’t gain back control for two whole weeks, and the city of Hue (pronounced ‘way’) took one whole month to free from communist clutches. This was a major turning point in the war, and the Americans finally realized that it was going to be a struggle.
