It is based on the novel Schindler's Ark by Thomas Keneally, an Australian novelist. The film tells the story of Oskar Schindler, a German businessman who saved the lives of more than a thousand mostly Polish-Jewish refugees during the Holocaust by employing them in his factories. It stars Liam Neeson as Schindler, Ralph Fiennes as Schutzstaffel, and Ben Kingsley as Schindler's Jewish accountant Itzhak Stern. John Williams composed the score.

ReplyDelete"Schindler's List" is the based-on-truth story of Nazi Czech business man Oskar Schindler, who uses Jewish labor to start a factory in occupied Poland. As World War II progresses, and the fate of the Jews becomes more and more clear, Schindler's motivations switch from profit to human sympathy and he is able to save over 1100 Jews from death in the gas chambers.

ReplyDelete1) Oscar Schindler is a businessman only interested in earning money. He is part of the Nazi's and he opens a factory to make weapons for the Germans during the war. He begins to notice the different things being used against the Jews. His factory becomes a place where Jews can just come and hang out. His factory then became a place where he had Jews transferred. He saved thousands of Jews' lives.

Oskar Schindler is a German businessman who opens a factory in the early '40s using Jewish laborers from the nearby Ghettos. He builds monetary wealth off of the labor and in return, as he sees the pure madness of the "Final Solution" unfold, he sees his unique position as one who can help. He soon does everything in his power to make the conditions as best he can for those who work in his factories. Eventually he 'purchases' nearly 1,100 Jewish prisoners and moves them to another camp where their lives are spared.

He starts a company to make cookware and utensils, using flattery and bribes to win military contracts, and brings in accountant and financier Itzhak Stern to help run the factory. By staffing his plant with Jews who've been herded into Krakow's ghetto by Nazi troops, Schindler has a dependable unpaid labor force. For Stern, a job in a war-related plant could mean survival for himself and the other Jews working for Schindler. However, in 1942, all of Krakow's Jews are assigned to the Plaszow Forced Labor Camp, overseen by Commandant Amon Goeth, an embittered alcoholic who occasionally shoots prisoners from his balcony. Schindler arranges to continue using Polish Jews in his plant, but, as he sees what is happening to his employees, he begins to develop a conscience. He realizes that his factory (now refitted to manufacture ammunition) is the only thing preventing his staff from being shipped to the death camps. Soon Schindler demands more workers and starts bribing Nazi leaders to keep Jews on his employee lists and out of the camps. By the time Germany falls to the allies, Schindler has lost his entire fortune -- and saved 1,100 people from likely death. Schindler's List was nominated for 12 Academy Awards and won seven, including Best Picture and a long-coveted Best Director for Spielberg, and it quickly gained praise as one of the finest American movies about the Holocaust.

ReplyDeleteSchindler was part of the Nazi party,and was looking for a fortune as a war profiteer. He started emplyeeing Jewish Poles instead of Catholic Poles because they cost less. Schindler built a sub-camp to save his workers and keep his business running smooth. A friend of his is an SS Lieutnant, is ordered to take the remaining Jews to Auschwitz. He conviinces the Lieutnant to keep his workers off the list of the Jews on the train going to the camps. He plans on sending the Jews to his home town to work away from the Final Solution. He spends a lot of money bribing Nazi officals. By the time he runs out of money the war ended. In the end this Jews' lives are saved.

Although, after seeing all of the cruel things being done to the Jews, he felt compelled to turn his factory into a refuge for the Jews. He loses all of his money, but this plan of his saved about 1100 Jews from being gassed at the Auschwitz concentration camp. Very sad and inpiring story.

Meanwhile, Oskar Schindler arrives in the city in hopes of making money as a war profiteer. He gives bribes to the Wehrmacht and SS officials in charge of procurement. Sponsored by the military, Schindler buys a factory for the production of army mess kits. Not knowing much about how to run it, he gains a close collaborator in Itzhak Stern an official of Krakow's Judenrat (Jewish Council) who has contacts with the Jewish business community and the black marketers inside the Ghetto. The Jewish businessmen lend Schindler the money for the factory in return for a small share of products produced. Opening the factory, Schindler pleases the Nazis and enjoys his wealth and status as "Herr Direktor", while Stern handles all the administration. Workers in Schindler's factory are allowed outside the ghetto, and Stern falsifies documents to ensure that as many people as possible are deemed "essential" to the German war effort, which saves them from being transported to concentration camps, or being killed.
