Reforming Industrial Society (Blog #22)

The Industrial Revolution led to economic, social, and political reforms. Many modern social welfare programs developed during this period of reform.

Your Assignment:

1.) Describe the difference between Capitalism and Socialism.
2.) Look at the chart on page 737. Consider the following people from the 19th-century Britain: factory worker, shop owner, factory owner, unemployed artisan. Which of them would be most likely to prefer capitalism and which would prefer socialism? Why?
3.) Which system of economic ideas seems most widespread today? Support your opinion.

  1. 1) Capitalism is a free-market system: an economic system based on the private ownership of the means of production and distribution of goods, characterized by a free competitive market and motivation by profit, while socialism is a political system of communal ownership: a political theory or system in which the means of production and distribution are controlled by the people and operated according to equity and fairness rather than market principles.
    2) I think the factory worker, factory owner are the capitalism and the shop owner and the unemployed artisan are the socialism because the factory people care about the market and if their production is going to make money when the socialism is all about making sure that the people are having the same treatment.
    3) I think it is capitalism that is over powering the U.S. because were are all about making money selling and all the new stuff which we think is boosting the economy when all it really is doing is making us in more debt.

Socialism-a political and economic theory of social organization that advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.

  3. 1) capitalism is an economic system based on a private ownership and on the investment of money in business ventures in order to make a profit and socialism would be is a economic system in which the factors of production are owned by the public and operate for the welfare of all:
    2) factory worker would be socialism shop owner would be capitalism factory owner would be capitalism and unemployed artisan would be socialism the owners are more high up and the socialism kind of work for other people and are told what to do.
    3) capitalism because you always have the people who own there own company and have people working for them and are told what to do. Without people's business we wouldn't be where we are in the world today. there are companies all over the world and new one's starting up every year.

3.) Capitalism because people are working to keep themselves above water. If people didn't have businesses we wouldn't have a very good economy. There are new companies starting all of the time.

  10. 1.) Capitalism is a social and economic system based on efficiency created to increase profits and to lessen the work load of middle classes the world around. Socialism is way of making goods through social ownership. Both are supposed to make profits increase just through different means.
2.) The worker, and artisan would like socialism because it gives everyone a chance to reap the riches. The owners would like capitalism because they gain more rewards from their owning those that do the work.
3.) Capitalism. The leaders of businesses prefer this because they get more money. Socialism is less dependable, because of the amount of power spread around. With capitalism the wealth is still spread but the responsibility and power isn't making it safer for those involved.

  11. 1) Capitalism is the economic belief that there should be a free market place for people to earn money for themselves(like in the US). Socialism is the economic belief that the government controls the economy and everyone contributes to better the whole outcome.(Like in Communism ruled countries.)
2)The shop and factory owners would prefer capitalism because they are succeeding in a free marketplace, the worker and unemployed artisan would prefer socialism because most everyone would be earning the same amount of money.
3)I think capitalism is the most widespread. The European Union and the US have equal opportunities in the market place and the economy is based off of that.
