Directly above this weeks Blog is a new widget I placed on our Blog page. It is called a newsreel. This newsreel searches the web for stories pertaining to the topic of your choosing. I chose to search for World History and Cultural History.
The last widget you will notice is the "Follow by Email" widget. This allows you to follow the Blogs and get updates regarding new assignments, etc.
Your Assignment:
1) Pick out one of the topics flashing along the top in the Newsreel and read that article giving a brief summary of the article and your opinions/thoughts on that article.
Due: Sunday by no later than 11:59pm
about video games becoming more real. it talks about how some people think that video games should be more realistic which I think is a good idea because it could make a kid get smarter at problem solving.
ReplyDeleteMost people are carrying around historical records in their DNA, with clues to how people from genetically distinct groups intermingled over the last 4,000 years.
ReplyDeleteit is cool that we can carry records of history in our dna
DeleteIn Des Moines, Iowa students created a special meal. Some items on the menu were deemed offensive by some students. It was offensive because it was fried chicken in honor of black history month. I don't think this to be truley offensive. Thinking that fried chicken is a "black only" meal is the offensive part. Just enjoying some good southern-fried chicken is far from being cruel.
ReplyDeleteThere is this couple that are like wierd-o nerds and were both obsessed with a book. When they got pregnant they didn't know what to name their child. They went to the book signing of the book they both love. While they were in line they thought back to the book and chose the name Samuel Vimes, a character in the book. They were getting the book signed for their unborn son and the author was the first person to know the name of the baby since they had came up with it right before he signed it. It think is is cool but if you dont know the book then you wouldn't understand the resemblance.
ReplyDeletePop culture love stories: A book Inspired baby name. This couple named their kid after a name in their favorite book. They got that book signed for their unborn baby, Samuel. Its cute they have the same book and named their kid after the main character. But the book sounds really weird.
ReplyDeleteA couple that are book worms name there baby Samuel after a character in a book. They asked the author to write the book to their son. I think its cool and very lucky that they had the opportunity to do that. It is not something i would do but each to their own i guess.
ReplyDeletePop culture love stories: A Book Inspired Baby Names. A couple named their son Samuel after a character in their favorite book. They got a copy of the book signed for their unborn child. The book sounds strange but I'm glad that they found something that they both love and can share it with their child.
ReplyDeletewere living in a world where we have way better medicine and things that help people. 100 years ago when African women were pregnant and having babies was about as dangerous as having breast cancer today. There as been much process of new medicine being made and new things being formed to help people. many things have changed all over the world just from 50 years ago like for example transportation. I think this is all good because it's making our life style better but it's also bad in some ways because it's making people more lazy.
ReplyDeleteI read an article about how we are living in the greatest time period ever. Crime and death rates are way down and life expectancy and years spent in leisure(retirement) are way up. Also technology and medicine is really advanced. In 1900 the pregnancy death rate was 1%, today the death rate for breast cancer is 1%. It was as dangerous to be pregnant as it is to have breast cancer.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad we have so many privileges and our technology is so advanced.
I read an article about DNA. It talked about how scientists are finding out that we have 4,000 years of history in our DNA. Its crazy to think that the was even a time before us.
ReplyDeleteA school in Woodland High, California has hired an 18 year old as a volleyball coach. In a way this is a good idea due to the fact that the coach can be more active with the team and show them things physically. As compared to the older coaches who can not be as physically active. On the other hand its a bad idea because if he isn't serious about this, then they will pretty much screw around and the team won't get the practice / wins that they need.
ReplyDeleteI read the article about students sour over Black history dinner at Drake University. Many of the students were offended because of the meal. I totally understand because most of the things that were served at the meal was fried things like the stereotypical black person would like. That is really raciest.
ReplyDeletewhat i read was about president obama giving a speech that was talking about the job market and he made a comment on if your major was manufacturing or trades you would make a lot more than a person who majoried in art history and a bunch of art teachers took this the wrong way and email him in the end he said he didnt mean it like that and that art so happened to be his favorite class in highschool
