The Holocaust (Blog #33)

During the Holocaust, Hitler's Nazis killed six million Jews and five million 'non-aryans'. The violence against Jews during the Holocaust led to the founding of Israel after World War II.

Your Assignment:

1.) Why did Hitler begin mass killings of Jews?
2.) What was the difference between a concentration camp and an extermination camp?
3.) Read the quote by Elie Wiesel on page 939, what is the theme?
4.) State your thoughts and opinions on Hitler's Holocaust.

Due: Sunday 4/26/09 by 11:59p.m.

  1. He considered them to be inferior to the rest of his Aryan race. Hitler wanted to have a master race of people. The government made the killing of Jews a policy.

A concentration camp is where prisoners are kept due to political reasons. Extermination camps was where people were sent to die and to die quickly.

That we need to remember the horrible tragedies that happend during the war.

I think that Hitler was a very racial person when he tried to exterminate the Jews and create his superior race. I am glad that the allied powers eventually won the battle.

  2. 1 Hitler wanted to create an "Arian Race". Means people being blonde, having blue eyes

    2concentration camp
A camp where civilians, enemy aliens, political prisoners, and sometimes prisoners of war are detained and confined, typically under harsh conditions.

Extermination camps were built by Nazi Germany during World War II for the systematic killing of millions of people in what has become known as The Holocaust. During World War II, under the orders of Heinrich Himmler, extermination camps were built during a later phase of the program of annihilation. Victims’ corpses were usually cremated or buried in mass graves

3 people should never forget the holocaust

4 was a bad thing that happen

  3. 1.) Nazis proposed a new racial order. They proclaimed that the Germanic peoples or Aryans were a master race. The Nazis claimed that all non-Aryan peoples, particularly Jewish people were inferior.

2.) Concentration camp- slave-labor prisons. These camps were located mainly in Germany and Poland. Hitler hopes the horrible conditions in the camps would speed the total elimination of the Jews.
Extermination camp- equipped with huge gas chambers that could kill as many as 6,000 human beings in a day.

3.)The theme is the life in Auschwitz.

4.) Hitler was a very bad man! I could he kill innocent human beings no matter what race they are, we are all alike whether people like it or not. No ones better than anybody else. God made us all the same so there wasn't jealousy. Hitler needed serious help but if it was me I wouldn't have helped him I would have probably tortured him to death..... I hate learning about the holocaust it was so horrible and it makes me so mad. Its just like the subject about Native Americans....people are so inconsiderate!!!!

  4. 1) Hitler wanted to create an aryan society. He believed that the jews made a bad society.
    2) Concentration camps made them do slave work so they had supplies for the war. Extermination camps are camps that they just kill everyone there.
    3) The theme of the quote is that the Holocaust destroyed her faith and all of her dreams.
    4) I think Hitler shouldn't of been killed. I think he should of been tortured till he died of old age and if he died when he was being tortured then he should of be brought back to life and keep tortureing him!

  5. Hitler targeted the Jews because of their failures. The concentration camps were more like intense labor camp. the extermination camps were where the gas chambers where and was where people were killed by the thousands. The theme of the quote was pain and sorow for the young people that suffered. I think it was wrong of him to do those things to innocent people. Some never had a chance because some were just kids or young people. Many died because of what I think was Hitler's own faults or pain.

  6. 1) he didnt believe that they were worthy of living in his new world.
    2) a concentration capm consisted of slaves, who were forced to do pointless work day in and day out. an extermination camp was just for the use of slaughter.
    3) that the holocasut left no hope in people.
    4) i think it was horrid that he did all those things. how could anyone seriously kill those people and not feel anything, like they were doing the right thing?

  7. Hitler wanted to create a master aryan race. He believed that the jews made society worse, and they made Germanys grow impossible.

A concentration camp was a camp that held huge amounts of jews before they could be sent to the extermination camps. Also these camps put the Jews to work. A extermination camp was a killing camp were huge gas chambers, murdered thousands of Jews at a time, then their bodies were cremated in large ovens. This way their existence wouldn't be found.

The theme is that her livelyhood was forever change, due to the Holocaust.

I believe the Holocaust was the worst crime commited on the face of the earth. What the Germans did was absolutely horrific. I hate the fact that people now are trying to say that the Holocaust didn't exist. If an event is forgotten, then the event may resurface itself again. Even though it may be painful to learn about the Holocaust, it is imperitive that we forever learn from our mistakes.

  8. 1.) Hitler knowingly tapped into a deep hatred for Jews that had deep roots in European history. Some Germans even blammed Jews for their loss of the World War 1.
2.) In concentration camps they worked seven days a week as slaves for the SS or for German business. In an Extermination Camp they seperated the strong for the weak. Those labeled weak would die that day.
3.) To never forget the bad things they are what reminds us of what this world was like.
4.) I think that it was stupid. I think that noone should have followed Hitler even tho they didnt no what was going on.

  9. He wanted the German race to be pure. He also couldn't send the Jews to any other countries, they had "shut their doors" to any more emmigration.
Concentrations camps were meant to work the prisoners to death whereas extermination camps were just to kill the people who arrived.
The theme is that he will never forget about what happened and that the Holocaust did happen.
Hitler was an insane man to think of this plan. People will never forget about it. He thought that such an iffective way of death and terror would never leave any proof, but he was wrong.

  10. 1.) Because he believed all races but the Aryans were inferior, especially the Jews and they all must be exterminated.

2.) The differenct between a concentration camp and an extermination camp is that in concentration camps the prisioners worked to help Germany in the war and in extermination camps they had mass killings.

3.) I think the theme of the passage is the pure horror of watching the children die in flames.

4.) I think Hitler was a very strong dictator that had some very crazy and messed up views on race and control. He should have never been allowed to come to power.

  11. Because they were a program of mass genocide.

concentrations camps was where they held them and extermination camps were where they killed them.

    Holacaust ruined lives.

I think hitler had to be a retard to even do tht 2 some1.

  12. 1) Hitler knew that the Germanic peoples, or Aryans, were a "master race". The Nazis claimed that all non-Aryan peoples, particularly Jewish people, were inferior.

    2) A concentration camp a guarded compound for the detention or imprisonment of aliens, members of ethnic minorities, political opponents, and any of the camps established by the Nazis prior to and during World War II for the confinement and persecution of prisoners. While an extermination camp is where there were mass killings of the Jews and people held captive.

    3) I think the theme is her horror. And her pain of seeing the deaths and tortures.

    4) I think it was 100% wrong. The people he went after were innocent and just had different beliefs. No one has the exact same beliefs. It was one of the worst disasters ever.

  13. 1.) Hitler began the mass killings of Jews because he did not like them.

2.) A concentration camp is a guarded compound for the detention or imprisonment of aliens, members of ethnic minorities, political opponents, etc., esp. any of the camps established by the Nazis prior to and during World War II for the confinement and persecution of prisoners.

An Extermination camp were two types of facilities that Nazi Germany built during World War II for the systematic killing of millions of people in what has become known as the Holocaust. During World War II, under the orders of Heinrich Himmler, extermination camps were built during a later phase of the program of annihilation. Victims’ corpses were usually cremated or buried in mass graves. The groups the Nazis sought to exterminate in these camps were primarily the Jews of Europe as well as Roma (Gypsies). The majority of prisoners brought to extermination camps were not expected to survive more than a few hours beyond arrival.

3.) I think what hitler did was wrong on so many levels. He was a good guy till he became a dictatior. i also think it is stupid that people say the holicost didn't happen when it did.

  14. 1.) Hitler began the mass killings of the Jews because is was a program of genocide, he wanted to kill the entire population of them. Originally he would put them in concentration camps and force them to work and not feed them and they would starve to death, but they Jews weren't dying fast enough so he began to kill them.
2.) Concentration camps were where the Jews were forced to work and not fed. They were tortured. Extermination camps were equipped with huge gas chambers that could kill as many as 6,000 humans in one day.
3.) The quote is about all the children who are being killed in the extermination camps and are in the fires and being burned.
4.) I think it was really brutal and unfair. It really makes me sad to think about all those people who were killed for no good reason. Most of them had families and would never get to see them.

    ReplyDelete
  15. 1.) He was racist towards them. He got tired of waiting around for them to die off by starvation or disease in the ghettos.
2.) A concentration camp were slave labor prisons. Extermination camps were gas chambers built to kill off jews even faster, they were also called death camps.
3.) Hes talking about he will never forget the things that the nazis and SS did to the Jews.
4.) I think it was a bad deal and he should have died in a gas chamber that the nazis built.

    ReplyDelete
  16. 1.) At first he out jews in ghettos, thinking that they would die from disease and hunger, but they didnt. So he made a plan called the final solution, which included genocide or mass murder.
2.) Concentration camps were where prisoners worked. Extermination is where they are killed.
3.) The horrors of extermination camps.
4.) Hitler was a phsyco, why would anyone want to kill so many people.

  17. to have a uniform country. concentration camps were where the worked till they died or were sent to and extermination camp where they were executed. people dying in Nazi massicures. i do not like hillers holocaust and i do not like it when people say that it didnt happen.

  18. 1. He killed them because they were not dying of desease lie he wanted them to.
2.Concentration is where prisoners worked for the camp. extermination is where they are killed at the camp.
    3.Horrors of extermination camps.
4.I think he should of never gotten power of anyhting because he did not do anything good.

  19. He felt that they were inferior. He had a deep hatred for them, and thought they were the cause of their failures.

a concentration camp they had them workingt, doing mainly pointless jobs. They would be brutily beet or even killed if they weren't working fast enough. The extermination camps were equipped with huge gas chambers that could kill up to 6,000 humans a day. Some camps even had crematoriums to burn the bodies.

This is aweful. Not even animals should be treated like this, let alone human beings. This goes to show how some people want a leader even if it means genocide. I hate that people were killed so horribly because of what they looked like, and what they believed.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Cause the jews were not dying due to desease that hitler wanted them too.
concentration is were prisoners worked. and extermination is were prisoners are killed
    resistance from jews.
i think its awfull what hitler did and is wrong that so many people because of what hitler thought a perfect world is made of.

  21. Hitler began the mass killings of Jews because he wanted to create the perfect " race " of germans: Which included 6 feet tall, blonde hair blue eyes. So in order for this to happen he had to take out every one else.

A concentration camp is where people are help there, kinda like a prison and had hard labor in harsh conditions. A extermination camp is just like the name itself, the people there may be included in some hard labor but are ultimately destined to be exterminated.

I didn't bring my book home so i have no clue what the answer to numer 3 is. But i am assuming the Holocaust.

Hitlers Holocaust makes me think about, how could people just let this happen. Now in history some people are trying to act as though it never happened. Well it did and it was a terriable event in history.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hitler targeted Jews as the cause of their failures.Hilter's "Final Solution Plan" was designed to kill out the Jewish population in Germany. This was an ethnic cleansing or a genocide. Many people went along with Hitler because they believed in the Aryn race, or the master race of Germans.
Concentration camps were designed to work the Jews to death. They did tough labor until they died of starvation, exhaustion, or disease. Elimination cams were designed to kill as many peopleas possible in a short amount of time. they were equipped with gas chambers and crematorium to burn the bodis.
The theme is that he witnessed something so terrible, so inhuman that he will never forget that awful feeling of that day.
I think what happened in the Holocaust was the worst thing to happen in human history. The treatment of people that way is hard to even think about. It was a disgusting time in history that should never be forgotten.

  23. 1) He believed that jews were bad and set against him.
    2) Concentration camps is where prisoners are kept due to who they were. Extermination camp is where people were sent to die right away.
    3) That we should not forget what happened and remember it.
    4) I think that Hitler was an evil man and should not have done the things he did. I also think that someone should have stopped him quicker then they did. I wish that he would of died the same way that he made the jews die so he would get a chance to see how horible it was.
